I had read several guides about this feature before.
Some said you needed Python, others mentioned X-Ray
Honestly, it was confusing enough to make me give up 🤯

So in the end I thought:
Forget it. I’ll just try it myself.

And it turns out 👇
you actually only need one plugin: WordDumb.

🔧 Steps That Worked for Me

1️⃣ Download WordDumb
👉 https://github.com/xxyzz/WordDumb

I used version 3.28.2 (the latest version didn’t load successfully for me, just for reference).

2️⃣ Open calibre
Go to:
Preferences → Plugins → Load plugin from file

Then select the ZIP file you just downloaded.

3️⃣ Connect your Kindle to the computer
Choose an English book → Create Word Wise

My files were only EPUB / MOBI, so I selected MOBI.
After generating it, send the book to your Kindle.

4️⃣ Check the files
If you see a .kll file inside the Kindle folder,
👉 that means it worked!

5️⃣ ⚠️ The key step

After disconnecting the Kindle:

  1. Turn off the Kindle Wi-Fi

  2. Open the book

The Word Wise hints should appear instantly

At first I kept Wi-Fi on and nothing happened.
The moment I turned it off, it worked immediately.
I was honestly impressed with myself 🥹

🏅 Finally I can read English books on Kindle without constantly opening a dictionary.

If you’ve been struggling with the same issue,
give this method a try!
